Dear Members,

SAVE THE DATES:
·      Jolaball/Christmas Dance, December 6th at Nansenfield.
·      Thorrablot, March 5th at The Latvian Community Center in Silverlake.
(More details to come later!)

Thanks to Katrin G. Fabbiano, our former president of the I.A.A.S.C, we were able to negotiate a reasonable fee for the Christmas Dance to be held at Nansenfield this year.  As usual, there will be Icelandic candy for sale, Santa Claus will visit with goodies and we will be dancing around the Christmas tree.

New this year: Crispy waffles with Icelandic rhubarb jam (rabbabara sulta) and mulled wine (jólaglögg)

Regards,

I.A.A.S.C.

June 25th 2015
Dear members of IAASC, family and friends.

We want to wish you a happy belated Icelandic Independence day!
We celebrated the holiday on June 13th at Nansen Field.
There were some of you who didn't make it to our annual event and you were very missed.
Even though there were only a few of us we did make it a great day.
Jökull Jónsson came to perform music and he was great, we feel very lucky to have had him.
We had a face painter who recreated some magnificent Disney characters for the children and had smoked trout that was imported from Iceland, compliments of Reykhúsið Útey, and of course we had the best Icelandic hot dogs!

At this time we want to announce a change within our board members.
After a 30 year activity with the association, Katrín Gunnarsdóttir Fabbiano has stepped down as president, and Guðrún Bára Floyd will be our new president of IAASC as of now.
Linda Björk Bragadóttir, vice consul has also stepped down as secretary after over 16 year activity with the association.
We will miss them both dearly, but they will continue to attend and support this wonderful organization.

Guðrún Bára was our treasurer for 10 years, Unnur Friðriksdóttir will replace her as treasurer.
For those who have not had the chance to meet Unnur, she is the owner and CEO of her fashion accessory line, UNNUR. She is a true entrepeneur and we are proud to have her as a official board member of our association.

Mandy Artusato who joined us 2 years ago as website administrator will continue her work as a board member.
In addition we would like to introduce and welcome new members at large, Guðmundur Þór Friðleifsson, Magnea Minni Helgadóttir and Jökull Jónsson.

Guðmundur has lived here since 2010, he works in the TV/Film industry as a camera operator and is married to Emma Pantall and together they have their son, Sindri.

Magnea has been here since last fall and is currently attending New York Film Academy in Burbank. She is a very successful producer from Iceland and has worked on many known shows in Iceland, including "Stundin Okkar".

Jökull Jónsson, who graced us with his music and singing at the Independence Day celebration, has lived in LA since 2011. He is the frontman of his band, Evening Guests or Kvöldgestir.

Make sure to give them a warm welcome next time you see them at our events.
We are still searching for additional members for the board of association, so if you would like to be involved please email us at: Icelandic2American@ca.rr.com
We are looking for a Vice-President as well as other members at large.

Last but not least, Katrín would like to thank everyone for a wonderful collaboration, especially to Birgir Gunnarsson, Þorgerður Ólafsdóttir, Jóhanna Lewis & Margrét Símonardóttir for their cooperation throughout the years for their help with the association.
And special thanks to our consulate, Sigurjón Sighvatsson and his wife Sigríður Þórisdóttir. They often hosted the annual events in their home and have always been so tremendously helpful especially when we needed to bring back items from Iceland (including this year's batch of Hot Dogs and candy)!
We are also grateful for our sponsors at 66 North, Icelandair, Nói Sirius and Rammagerðin.

There have been some changes that have affected the operation and financial situation of our association, and we want to be completely transparent about those changes.

Nansen Field has raised their prices every year and this year we were asked to pay $2,000 for the rental of the hall.
After some persuasion we were able to get it for $1,000 which is still a big expense for our small organization.
If we don't start receiving memberships from our members this year, it will become impossible for us to host our yearly gatherings. We likely will not be able to get Nansen Field at the same price again and could very well have to pay full price next time.

Last year we received membership fees from 12 members, when in fact we have over 250 on our list.
We can't stress enough how important it is for us to receive the membership fees, it is the only thing holding this association floating and the only way we can continue to host the 17 Júní celebration and Jólaball/Christmas celebration. Memberships go completely towards the rental for our spaces, the food we bring to have at the events and everything that goes with holding an event. Without it, this organization and the events will cease to exist.
Because of the lack of memberships paid last year, we reluctantly were forced to cancel Thorrablót this year.
If we get everyone's memberships we will be able to continue to hold the events and put on Thorrablót for next year which we are hoping to be able to start planning for if our funding allows us to.

Annual membership fees are due once/year, and thereafter the entry fee is at cost vs paying full price for non-members.
So please send in your annual membership fees which were due in January, it is $20/person.
The membership fee can be paid with a check, made out to “I.A.A.”, which can be sent to: Guðrún Bára Floyd 1659 B Elevado Street Los Angeles CA 90026
or directly by going online to our website www.clubicelandsocal.com
We have posted our entry and membership fees on our site and it is also payable via paypal.

We hope you contiune to come celebrate with us and help us hold on to our Icelandic traditions. We are all proud of our heritage and strive to make these celebrations as fun and memorable as possible.
Please help make them possible with us.

Sincerely,
on behalf of all the board members of IAASC,
Katrín Gunnarsd. Fabbiano
